Spider-Man, a Playstation 4 exclusive
Those of you who attended the Montreal Comic Con back in July might have played the demo version that was presented at the Sony Playstation booth. After a long wait, Spider-Man was released a week ago as a PS4 exclusive.
As comic book fans, we had to play it. It is now done (we actually finished the game by then), and we are waiting for more.
The story
The story is really in the line of what fans could expect from a Spider-Man game, most of the main recurring characters are here and the plot is pretty intense with an both really light and funny moments and very dark ones.
It will take an average player around 20 hours to finish the main story without paying to much attention to side quests and events. A “completionist” will add an extra 5-10 hours to that.
The characters
It is hard to give an actual list of all the characters you will encounter throughout the story without spoiling the game. However, you will encounter both classic characters (such as Aunt May and MJ) and newcomers.
You will also face several factions that you will face throughout the game each with their specificity.
Spider-Man will also progressively unlock new suits that will have special powers attached to them (but you can assign a suit power to any other “skin”) making it possible to use the one you prefer regardless of the special power you want to use.
I am also tempted to list New-York city as a character because of how well it is rendered.

The gameplay
The gameplay is absolutely stunning. While it is pretty easy to swing across the city, the fights will take some getting use to. You will probably have your a** kicked more than once in the first few encounters but once you get the hang of it, it’s very rewarding as you can fight your way through huge crowds of enemies with that Spidey class.
As the story advances, you will be able to unlock new powers and new combat moves that will help you fight increasingly strong bad guys.
Overall, it really does feel like you are the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man we all love.
What next?
For those of you who want to buy the extended version of the game, 3 extensions have already been announced (“The Heist” in October 2018, “Turf Wars” in November 2018 and “Silver Lining” in December 2018), if you would rather wait, they will also be available as an expansion pack or one at a time.
Also, seeing how the game story line ends, it is highly probable that there will be a Spider-Man 2 game that will be released in the future.
